Nocturne Dyno Brain Pre-amp / PreAmp / Pre Amp - Test w/ Strymon El Capistan & Roland RE-501 - YouTube

Uploaded by DemoColorScheme on Mar 4, 2011

Here's a bunch of clips I did for the Nocturne Dyno Brain, which is basically the Roland RE-301 Chorus Echo's pre-amp. I don't own a RE-301, but I do own a RE-501.

This test was to see how the Nocturne reacted with the Strymon El Capistan and if it could warm up the El Cap.
I didn't boost the output of the Nocturne because I wanted to keep the comparison as fair as possible. Louder stuff just sounds better, so that wouldn't be fair.

Timeline:
1) 00:00 - 00:55
Clean / RE-501

2) 00:57 - 02:03
Clean / Nocturne Dyno Brain

3) 02:05 - 02:24
RE-501 w/ delay & reverb

4) 02:26 - 02:46
Nocturne Dyno Brain w/ El Capistan

5) 02:47 - 03:34
Nocturne Dyno Brain (On /Off / On) + El Capistan

6) 03:38 - 04:20
Nocturne Dyno Brain (Off / On) + El Capistan

7) 04:23 - 04:41
RE-501 w/ delay & reverb

8) 04:44 - 05:04
Nocturne Dyno Brain + El Capistan

9) 05:05 - 05:37
Nocturne Dyno Brain (Off / On / Off / On) + RE-501

10) 05:40 - 06:16
Nocturne Dyno Brain + RE-501 + El Capistan

When the video started I thought you were playing the melody from "Hystaria" by Def Leppard. Brought back memories. :D

I'd have to say the 501 is a little warmer/fuller(bad English) than the El Cap, but just the fact it is a little box on your pedalboard
It's amazing how close it gets.

That's what I've always thought too. I'm thinking the key is that the real tape echo probably kills some high end, where the ElCap passes EVERYTHING- like it's supposed to? And I'm not talking just about the repeats, I'm also talking about the straight signal.

Like, I almost wish the ElCap had a crappy Behringer buffer in it so as to remove a little high end... or, I could just use 60ft cables like Setzer does. :)
Turning the treble/presence down on the amp is NOT the same thing.
