themick July 23rd, 2011, 06:00 PM Recently I've decided to sell stuff on my pedalboard and try to replace them with 'home grown pedals.'
What this means is that I want pedals made personally by someone, not in a factory for some big company. I'm going to have Tavo's Billy Brain this Monday, so I'm looking forward to that.
I need help, though. I don't really know who else makes pedals besides Tavo. Can you point me in some direction? Here's what I want to find.
1) Wah-Wah
2) Overdrive
3) Delay w/ tap tempo
4) Tuning Pedal
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
ampe July 23rd, 2011, 06:23 PM what would be the advantage of a home grown tuner pedal over a factory one?
mark t July 23rd, 2011, 06:28 PM If you're into the DIY thing, check out Build Your Own Clone or General Guitar Gadgets. You can make yourself a number of pedals. The couple that I've built....a Big Muff Ram's Head and a Silicon Fuzz Face from General Guitar Gadgets have been awesome pedals, allowed me to swap out parts if I've wanted to try stuff, and even an amateur solder guy like myself can put one together inside of a couple of hours.
That being said, Tavo's pedals are awesome.
GADify July 23rd, 2011, 06:36 PM +1 for BYOC. I've buit a couple:
Here's a "Shredder". Basically a Marshal Shredmaster IIRC:

This one is a germanium Fuzz that sounds amazing:

If you can solder, the easier builds are cake. The advanced ones like the chorus can be demanding if you're a novice.

Nothing other than supporting someone. May not even exist, just curious.
jaycemumford July 23rd, 2011, 08:10 PM Check out the Whipple Wah, a bit more expensive though.

falzoony July 23rd, 2011, 10:30 PM I have the same theory when buying pedals, I try to buy from small buisness's. The last pedal I put an order in for is a Gearmanndude luther drive. Sounds very cool and you would assume the guy who tests every pedal would know what it takes to make a good one. It's based on an Ibanez TS808 with a few mods.
There are so many people out there making pedals I'm sure you will be able to find something to suit your needs.
Sarah93003 July 23rd, 2011, 10:48 PM Have a look at my 51 Mercury Overdrive thread in the Pedal pushers forum and see if that would interest you.

themick September 8th, 2011, 08:05 PM Any good homegrown chorus pedals? Now I'm in search of one of those.

There are many home-built pedals these days. Consider things like Empress and Diamond pedals too :)
Rowland1 September 9th, 2011, 06:55 AM I love building my own pedals. I second the recommendation for "Build Your Own Clone" and "General Guitar Gadgets." My favorite is Madbeanpedals.com - He has printed circuit boards for a lot of well known pedals. Madbean also has a great forum (not as great as this one of course) with helpful folks willing to provide tech support. I could also point you to some good parts websites if you're interested.
I am currently waiting for some parts to build a clone of the Boss CE-2 chorus (with some cool mods). This is from madbean.
I also highly recommend the Tim and Timmy pedals. Paul Cochrane is a great guy building these pedals himself (in Tennessee I believe). You have to call him on the phone to order and there is a wait, but definiately a great pedal and a guy that deserves to have a successful business.
Decayingsilence11 September 9th, 2011, 07:12 AM Tortuga Effects makes some great pedals all hand made by one person. Expensive, but nice. Their Martini analog chorus is so sweet (but it's $300).
themick September 9th, 2011, 10:33 AM Just placed an order for the Tim. Looks like I'll be anxiously awaiting until January...
