Anyone want to trade your Timmy V2 for my Tim?

I just got my TIM in trade from caeman, and I love it. The only reason that I want to trade it for a Timmy is that I would never use all of the extra stuff it has on it that the Timmy doesn't have--like the effects loop and boost stomp switch/circuit. Unlike most people I tend to like my pedals to just have one button, and as few knobs as possible.

If no one has a Timmy V2 to trade I'll just keep the TIM, as it is a tone monster. Again, I just want to get the stripped down model.

Thanks!

Have a Barber Custom Shop SS od, an Mxr Carbon Copy, and a Sparkledrive if any 2 of those interest you

Maybe even my Billy Brain, as I want to get Tavos new one with the built in fuzz when he has them ready!

Need a good boost with an effects loop. Xotic looks to have a nice one as well.

Thanks for the offers WhoJamFan, but I'm really looking for a Timmy V2. I've been debating a Billy Brain for a while, but I think that the Timmy will be more useful for me right now.

HTM, yes, the TIM does have a lot of knobs and buttons. That tone and drive knob placement killed me bend over and adjust them. So, I didn't. I found one spot that worked. That Boost side would seem to be more appropriate for someone that wants a "I'm doing a LEAD solo now" mode.

I do use a lead boost, but I already have a couple different options for that. I like to have my boost as the last part of my pedal chain as well so that I can boost everything without loosing any tone. My Mesa amp has one built in, and I'm going to be getting one of these pretty soon to have on my board:

This one also serves as a buffer, even when it's turned off.

Isn't Timmy just the non loop part of the Tim?

From what I've read that's the jist of it. The Tim has an effects loop and a boost circuit. Supposedly, the Timmy is just the "meat and potatoes" OD circuit of the Tim in a smaller package.

nah.. the TIM just has the effects loop and boost switch.. timmy 2 is more compressed sounding but slightly more variation in texture due to dipswitches for asymm and symm settings.. but you have to pull it apart to fool with them. The TIM has it all on the outside..

If you want a more compressed sound from your TIM swap out the JRC4559 for a TL072 chip (avail at radioshack) or NOS RC4558. the JRC4559 has a slight bit more edge or less compression when pushed.

Yeah, but isn't the whole selling point that the Tim stuff has minimal compression and maximum transparancy?

The circuit is exactly the same, they are not two different pedals (TIM and TIMMY).. I have them both and the Timmy has a slightly more compressed sound. I dont know if this is a proximity effect ( technically two wires next to eachother can create capacitance) due to the small case and mini pots.

Back to the OP, I have a Timmy V2 that I just got a few weeks ago and I might be up for a trade. Is yours the original Tim? Got pics?

Hey TV, thanks for the input..it's always nice to get the low-down on pedal circuits from ya.

I think (I'm hoping) that the Timmy would be perfect for my tastes...once I find the sweet spot with a pedal I don't usually change it a whole lot. I dunno why I'm not into multi-function pedals--I dig having a seperate pedal with it's own personallity for different functions, even boost, and I'm not a effects loop kinda guy.

Hi Geosh, I got it in trade from caeman, a member here, a few weeks ago. (He has a post in this thread) I believe that he got it from the waiting list method, from Paul C himself just a few months ago. It's still in perfect condition--never been dropped, gigged, or anything else that might hurt it.

Like I was saying above, it's got a monster tone...but I prefer to have simple one-button pedals, and I don't need the effects loop. I was actually looking for the Timmy when Chad offered to trade me his Tim, and I thought it would be a good chance to see what kind of tone Paul Cochrane’s pedals have. I was impressed.

Here are some pics that I just snapped with my wife's camera on our patio:

That is what I want. I had one a while back but was forced to sell for some quick cash. I got the Timmy now and it is great, but I miss the boost option. Mine is in mint condition too, save for some velcro that I just applied. Let me know what you want to do.

Keep the Tim ;-) ... Or sell it to me. Have a few trades you're interested. good luck. Happy hunting. Just put my name on Paul C's list for one of those.

Well I got the Timmy on Monday, but didn't have a chance to really put it through its paces until yesterday. I'm happy to say that it is exactly what I was looking for! I get the same tones as the Tim, but in a simple one-button 'meat and potatoes' type stomp box--perfect for my rig. Thanks again Geosh!

What settings are you using? I have my Timmy set up a bit different than
the TIM. Strangely On the TIMMY you have to keep the gain lower and the volume higher as compared to the TIM

I noticed that too. I turned the gain down and cranked up the volume a bit more than the Tim. The Timmy seemed a little harder to dial in, but not by much. I can't remember where I have the tone knobs set but I'll look and report back when I get home from work. I lurve how it preserves the amp/guitar tone....very nice. Right now I just have it set for a little break up with the guitar volume all the way up, but I tried some higher gain settings yesterday and it reminded me of a tube screamer but better.

You can replace the JRC4559 chip with quieter cleaner OPA2134 chip so when you use higher gain settings it wont blur so much like a tubescreamer does.

the TLO72 or NE5532 is nice at lower settings but sort of grating when pushed hard.

If he hasn't messed with it, I swapped the RC4559 with a LM1458 already, and it has a little cleaner crunch IMO. It does cut back on some of the high end "sparkle" or "brittleness" that I heard though. I tried the OPA2134 too, but it didn't crunch as nicely and sounded a little too "Hi-fi" for me. If you want, I can mail that one to you to play with too Michael. I think I have a spare TL072 as well if you want to play. I am not going to use it them as I am very happy with the LM1458 in the new Tim, and my pedal building is on hiatus. I have already auditioned the same set of ICs that I tried in the Timmy and I still like this one the best with my rig.

As for selling the Tim, I think that I am going to keep it this time. I have bought a Tim (a while back) and recently a Timmy straight from Paul C and now I am back to having a Tim again. I am very happy now and I learned my lesson about selling great pedals which have long replacement lead times. I think am going to find something else to sell next time if the need arises... but that is what I always say :p

Nope I haven't put the RC4559 back in it--I like the LM1458. If you wouldn't mind mailing the other chips so I can try them that would be great. Thanks man.
