The Marlin May 13th, 2011, 07:40 AM Why the heck are these so pricy?

What's so special about them compared to TV Jones, or original Filtertrons?
Mr Marlin
Jack Knife May 13th, 2011, 07:47 AM The stuff from Duncan's Custom Shop is always pricey. That's about std for any of his Custom Shop pickups.
Jukebox May 13th, 2011, 07:49 AM Because they are SD's and like all SD's they are over priced.
Ricochet May 13th, 2011, 08:04 AM These are Custom Shop Seymour Duncans. Like all bullteek winds they are pricey, but not more so than some of these other winders...
The regular Seymour Duncans rate the absolute best in my book for consistency in quality at a fair price.
TV the Wired Turtle May 13th, 2011, 01:46 PM old hippies are not qualified to make gretsch filtertrons :)
Jack Knife May 13th, 2011, 01:48 PM ...bullteek ...
Classic! :D
Strummerson May 13th, 2011, 03:00 PM old hippies are not qualified to make gretsch filtertrons :)
+1 to that.
HypotenusLuvTriangle May 13th, 2011, 03:10 PM I can understand it. Of all the pickups I've ever had, my Seymour Duncans, specifically the SH-11 Custom Custom, are some of the best i've ever heard and played. Granted, different pups for different tones and all, but I sent out my Iceman with my SDs on it for some body work, and I've been jonesing to play it the past 1.5 months. I love my TV Jones as well. And heck, a set of TV Jones Classics with all the stuff that comes with em can get up between 260 - 300.
WhoJamFan May 13th, 2011, 03:14 PM Aren't the SDs primarily a Gibson PAF in a Filtertron configuration?
spooky May 13th, 2011, 05:26 PM old hippies are not qualified to make gretsch filtertrons :)
Better ask Pete Anderson about that he loves SD filtrons.
MickBones May 13th, 2011, 07:12 PM old hippies are not qualified to make gretsch filtertrons :)
lol +1 to that
Ricochet May 13th, 2011, 07:25 PM  I don't get it. Didn't "that old hippy" help in shaping the tones we're all chasing? (Re-)winding pickups in the late 60s for the likes of Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, and Jeff Beck just to name a few... If there's anyone qualified to make a "neutered sounding PAF wannabee in a cute housing" it's him...dammit.
spooky May 13th, 2011, 09:41 PM It is because SD is not TV. Bottom line
Henrytwang May 14th, 2011, 02:56 AM I'm more than happy with Gretsch Filtertrons, but I do understand that if you feel that you must have the Duncans you'll pay the price, (no matter how silly). I have, in the past, paid stupid money for a must have guitar only to find it disapointing after a couple of weeks.
