My high E-string sounds like it's dead I've done all I know what to do. I've changed strings , different gauge, it's not hitting frets, nut & bridge looks O.K.
It sounds the same all the way up the fret board, and open. the rest of the strings sound great. Has anybody had this problem? thanks Jim

You could have a bad set of strings

Jim,
Does it sound that way plugged in?
Stupid question, but have you made sure nothing's under the bridge?
You might want to try raising the high side of the bridge just a wee bit. of course, you can always lower it back to where you started it it doesn't help.

I changed the E string 3 times same sound. Nothing under the bridge. I raised the bridge. I tried everything I'm about to go crazy I've asked everybody I know.

Could there be something loose in the bridge? One of the adjusting screws, perhaps?
I filed down the plastic bridge insert on my acoustic guitar a bit too much, and got that annoying sitar-like sound on the high e-string. It wasn't buzzing on any of the frets, but the the buzzing went away when I put a shim under the insert to raise the strings a bit. I think it was probably that there wasn't enough angle as the string passed over the bridge. Maybe your problem is something like that.

Jim,
Is this an acoustic problem or when it is amped up?
What type of guitar and bridge are you using?

Jim,
If the bottom of the bridge base is not contoured to contact the body fully, you can get a dead sound. I've heard of a similar problem where the person took a fine grade sandpaper with an adhesive back and put it on the guitar where the bridge sits. He lightly rubbed the bridge back and forth so that the base would sand to the same shape as the guitar top. Afterwards, he removed the sandpaper, put the bridge back in place, and everything was fine.
I had an acoustic where the bridge had pulled up slightly (could hardly see it) and the 1st three stings sounded dead. After the bridge was repaired and made contact across it's entire length everything was fine.
It's worth a shot.
