I have a 65' Harmony with the vibrato tailpiece mounted ON the body... but there isn't even a block underneath. This is the guitar...

Could I install a bigsby B5 safely? I don't like the look of the long tailpiece on any guitar other than a les paul or gretsch so I'd much prefer the B5 on mine. The guitar is over 45 years old and this current tail hasn't cracked the body and I've never seen one that has, so that's what makes me think a B5 would be possible.

Not a good idea since the B5 is designed for solid body guitars.

The B5 will just not work and probably destry your guitar.

Might work, but I wouldn't take a chance on it. Get the Bigsby with the cutout like on Billy Zoom's Sparkle Jet if a regular Bigsby has too much chrome

Most of the Harmony/Silvertone hollow-bodies back in day had Bigsby B3 vibratos.
If you feel the need for an upgrade, that's the way to go.
It's generally a bad idea to bolt a B5 on top of a hollow-body. But sometimes people get lucky. Do you feel lucky?

Hi Braden:) I was gonna have you measure the distance from your Vibrato to the back of the body and compare it to mine, I think you'd be better of going with a Bigsby like mine. Ive got a B60 but a B3 would be a good alternative if its shorter then mine I think the equivalent to mine would be a B6? maybe, IDK for sure. Anyway I know you probably don't want to drill into the side but that extra support might be nice.

hahah knew I'd run into you bdock!
I know it's not a good idea because it is a hollow body, but I ask because it ALREADY has a top mounted vibrato and has survived 45 years

Haha Go for it then! I think it'd be Alright... I just like the look of the ones with tail piece. I cant remember where I found it but I saw another one online that had a top mounted piece, not a Harmony but another brand I was gonna tell you about it.
