Gretsch-Talk November 1st, 2008, 08:16 AM Well, our webhost moved the DNS at 4am this morning so it propagated right away this morning as well. I migrated the domains and voila... you are now on the new server.
By the way, next week there with be some server optimization going on during the week. So, expect some things to be up and down as this is carried out.
Pappy November 1st, 2008, 08:34 AM Just in time, Annie just went down for a nap and the wife is sleeping in.:)
GreatGretsch November 1st, 2008, 08:38 AM I was like a kid waiting for a shot at the doctors office but the shot was already given without you knowing.
Cool.......Thanks Paul!
Synchro November 1st, 2008, 08:43 AM Not bad. The page fills seem pretty fast.

Synchro November 1st, 2008, 09:12 AM Well, our webhost moved the DNS at 4am this morning so it propagated right away this morning as well. I migrated the domains and voila... you are now on the new server. The first thing I did this morning was to ping the domain by name. When I saw that had changed I tried the site and was pleasantly surprised. As the veteran of many server moves myself let me say . . . WELL DONE!
Pappy November 1st, 2008, 09:29 AM Looks like we didn't need the egg site after all.:D
Synchro November 1st, 2008, 09:33 AM Don't mock the eggs. :)
gigatron November 1st, 2008, 11:19 AM Then what'll we do for egg site ment
Synchro November 1st, 2008, 11:22 AM Ewwwww! That's a good one. :)
bobframe November 1st, 2008, 01:21 PM Paul,
Superbly done.
You advised us well in advance. You did exactly what you said you were going to do. There were no ugly surprises. THIS is how you do things.
Unfortunately, most of us also have a "how-not-to" experience (frequent and unexpected interruptions, no communication about what's going on, outages of unknown durations, no clue if anyone is actually working on it- real hobbyist/"amateur-hour" stuff) as a point of comparison, which makes this all the more delightful an experience.
Thanks- it was an honor to observe you work through this process.
Paul, IMHO you have created a world class environment for us to use. While it is always up to the members to keep this fun and informative, you've given us a wonderful tool to use. Thanks a million.
Jukebox November 1st, 2008, 01:25 PM This is great ! Thanks Paul!
SJB66 November 1st, 2008, 01:51 PM Paul,

Scott November 1st, 2008, 01:54 PM Geez, I slept right through it...:(
SaltyDog November 1st, 2008, 03:05 PM Nice work, Paul.
'Kinda reminds me of the Y-2-K non event.
Gretsch-Talk November 1st, 2008, 03:17 PM Thanks all for the kind words.
PS. Remember, there will be intermittent downtime this week during some optimization sessions that will require server reboots to accomplish. I'll not be able to warn you in advance in most cases.
bobkat November 1st, 2008, 05:11 PM Paul,,,,You DA Man! Great job!
dan P November 4th, 2008, 12:16 PM Wow, after trying to load the site with no luck all weekend, and yesterday evening, my home pc keeps coming up short, some parallel site not found or not there, whats up with this?
Synchro November 4th, 2008, 12:24 PM Wow, after trying to load the site with no luck all weekend, and yesterday evening, my home pc keeps coming up short, some parallel site not found or not there, whats up with this?Classic DNS issue. If you have a Windows XP or Vista PC open a command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns
This should force your PC to lookup the site's address anew.
Jukebox November 4th, 2008, 12:28 PM I never had any problems. Depending on what computer I'm on it's anyting from window to vista. No problem!
bobframe November 4th, 2008, 12:31 PM zero issues here. not a single hiccup.
Gretsch-Talk November 4th, 2008, 12:44 PM Dan, either your computer or your ISP is caching the DNS info from the old server. 99.9% of everyone else got the new site within 2 hours on Saturday morning.
