Would switching strings damage a hollow body?

Hi, friends!, what do you think about this: " We don't recommend anyone to switch strings, since bracing, bridges, and tone bar are set up for right-handed players. It is better to play it upside down. Otherwise, it could be harmful to the structure of the guitar". I´ve found this comments on http://lefthandedguitarplayer.blogspot.com/2007/11/should-i-play-right-handed-guitar.html.
As I´ve posted before, I´m a lefty player, and I´ve been thinking about buying a 5122 adapting it to my "condition" ,...but now I don´t know!, don´t wanna ruin a guitar like this!. :(

I'm not an expert in the design, but the top bracing on a Gretsch is symetrical (even on the top). The back reinforcements are all the same. If you are dead set on a righty conversion, all you need to do is change the nut, and reverse the strings and the bridge.

Personally, I would look for a lefty. You are going to have everything upside down including the input jack (unless you move that).

The 5122's, Just like most Gretsch models, have parallel bracing. That means that the bracing and overall construction is the same on each side. Besides, the plywood top and back plates are much stronger than say, a carved instrument. As Bengal65 said, just change those few little things and you will be fine. Also, if you don't want to move the jack, try a cable with an angled end.

if thats true, someone should a memo to this 73 Country Club telling it "hey you can't played, because apparently your a right handed guitar."

Umm... asymmetrical = not symmetrical, i.e.- not equal on both sides... Symmetrical = the same on both sides. :-) Just like atypical = not typical.

You are right. I was trying to say a Symetrical top bracing, but merged the words. Corrected.
