The Other Woman (Guild)

Since I love my White Falcon so much, I thought my next guitar would be a 6120SSLVO. Played a 1966 Guild Starfire V last night. It's in excellent condition with minor finish wear on the neck indicating that it was actually played rather than sitting in a case. It is in a rare dark green finish all original except bone nut asking $2850 from a shop I trust. The prices seems reasonable given what I've seen online and the condition. Sounds and plays wonderful and is a nice complement to my Falcon. I was getting bored with my Strat and Epi Sheraton II both of which I've had for around 20yrs.

As much as I love the Guild Starfires, $2,850 seems a bit high to me. Here's one for $2,000. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/msg/1620416942.html

You might consider a Starfire IV, which goes for much less than that. For that money, I'd get a Guild X500. That's just me though!

The 5 and the X500 are two different animals, but both very nice and that price would be close to getting you the 500. Most of the 4's had dots instead of block inlays and many did not come with Bigs.

The problem is there are very few 5's out there and the few I have seen have been that green version. $2,850 is lofty.

Yeah, that one looks a lot more beat up than the one that I bought. It looks like it was played a lot some wear or top of neck near the binding. Only a few spots where the lacquer is cracked and a minor belt buckle scratches that don't go all the way through the finish. Otherwise it is cherry and it plays like a dream.

Before I got the 6119, the best guitar I ever had (allbeit not a exactly a Guild), was a DeArmond Starfire Special, it was sublime, and blew my Les Paul out of the water. I'm sure you'll love the Guild, they're fantastic guitars.

Thanks russjm,

I brought it home last night and it really is a wonderful guitar. Everything is original other than the bone nut. Just minimal wear. It was obviously a players guitar and lovingly cared for. Action Music in Falls Church VA did a wonderful job of setting it up to perfection. I highly recommend this shop for their knowledge, customer service and variety of cool new and vintage guitars and amps. They are also a Gretsch dealer. http://www.actionguitar.com/

Doesn't mean the Falcon is going in the closet although I think the Epi Sheraton II will (pending pickup upgrades).

Man does not live by guitars alone, he needs amps, mikes cables and a PA.
