p90jj October 10th, 2009, 04:20 PM My wife has been asking me to record some of my music, well I need some type of recording device. What would you all suggest, I need something economical but will work and sound good. I'd like to be able to put it on my computer and burn copies.
gigatron October 10th, 2009, 04:47 PM I have a Boss BR600 and can recommend it. I can't compare it to anything else, though.
ishtar October 10th, 2009, 05:11 PM I have an little Edirol R-09 and have been happy with it. It has a line in port and stereo mics built in. I think it has been replaced by a newer model, and I know there are a couple other small flash media digital recorders out there now. The line in from a mixer works well, and the little condenser mics are good for what they are. Much depends on the room's acoustics and the source.

p90jj October 10th, 2009, 09:11 PM both look like real nice units, thanks of the help
mugsy October 10th, 2009, 09:29 PM I use a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 with a mixing console into a laptop running Audacity. (It can export to mp3 using lame drivers.) You could be up and running for less than $100.
guitar_randy October 10th, 2009, 11:03 PM Theres alot of neat recording stuff out there now a days.I have an 8 track fostex multitrackerMKII.I admit that I don't know how to use all the stuff it could do.I use it to make songs.I downloaded a free audacity download off the web for basic editing on the puter and also a free mp3 converter to convert the finished wav file to an mp3.If I can figure out that much, believe me ,anyone could.
It does a decent job too.I think the unit goes for about $250.Its worth it tho

OK how does it hook up I'm very interested in it. Do I need a mixer??? How would I hook my tube amp up to the mixer?? or the U control???

I wouldn't do that, if you want to record your amp sound you have to mic it.
Michiel October 11th, 2009, 09:48 AM I use a 4-channel Boss Micro BR since a couple of weeks.
Nifty little thing with built-in rythm box. And Very Portable!
It has built-in amp models & fx and it can record 2 tracks simultaneously.
After recording, it can down-mix multiple tracks into virtual tracks to combine.
And finally it can convert your mix to an MP3 output file, although it's a little slow at doing that.

OK that is what I thought.

we used one of these things to make our demo, talking about my band. It was pretty easy and I was impressed about the quality. We put it in the middle of the room and play like it wasn't there.
Not bad but I decided to load the sound files into the computer, start pro tools and had some tweaking, I added a bit of compression and set the eq, in the end it was much much better!
workknot October 14th, 2009, 04:53 PM I recently purchased the Tascam DR-07 digital recorder. It works fantastic for recording with the built in stereo mics. I am just having a problem getting the recordings from the Tascam into the computer. Now sometimes I make it and the next time it won't go. For sure there is something I am overlooking. Using WinXP Pro and loading into WMP. Just have to keep plugging away at it until the step that is wrong is discovered. Getting a little frustrating though. And yes I know one of my grandkids could probably whip right through it. In fact they will be here this weekend so all is not lost. :o

workknot October 15th, 2009, 08:25 PM Well today I fumbled around long enough until I came upon a very simple way to move my mp3 recordings from my Tascam DR-07 digital recorder into my computer. The beauty of it is, when I then open Windows Media Player, whalla there they are ready to play. May wonders never cease. Sometimes when on a mission to learn a new curve on the compouter, my patience level is easily disturbed which of course only compounds the learning curve. Anyway, it should not be long before I am able to post some sound clips of my bridges here on the GreTscH-Talk site and on my website. :)
Now I just have to learn how to play the guitar.

Jukebox October 15th, 2009, 08:43 PM Pop's how do you like that little recorder? I was thinking, down the road to get one like yours or simular. I gave away my Omega studio, because it was to confusing for me to operate. I need a no brainer!:D
workknot October 15th, 2009, 10:37 PM Jukebox: It is very simple to record with. It will do it in MP3 at 32 kbps~320 kbps or you can choose to do it in WAV 16 bit or 24 bit. Loading the recordings on the computer was my only snag until I figured it out and now that is very simple. Got it at Sweetwater for $165 on sale. I think MF also has that same price.
The recordings are nice and clean, I was pleased and surprised with its performance.
