Tube amp Help!
Can anyone tell me about a Peavey Windsor tube amp? The head is 100 watts and the cabinet ,I think has four 12" speaker. Can anyone tell what they are worth and how good are they? I found a deal and looking at buying it for trade material. Thanks

When I looked at the back it said 300watts, Is that the imput maxed level? So from what I read $600 for both is a good price?

I guess that would be a good price. Do you need something that big? I would think the headroom would reach into the clouds but I'm leary of these low level monster amps. For the money you're talking I would think a Delta Blues would be a better fit for you. I already know and trust that amp. And trust me it's not a meager amp. The reverb is workable the trem iffy but the amp has some balls behind it. I can put you into something great for about 1100 to 1300! I'm sure that's not happening tho"

Hey Yankee! Aren't you just a little to far North of the Mason Dixon to be considering a Peavey anything?

Well I bought it. It's on layaway. I was able to pick it up for $500.00 I figure the speakers were worth that.

Hi Jukebox.
I have owned the Windsor for about three days and brought ist back to the shop,
because a trace on the cheap PCB caught fire. The guys from the shop
gave me a Classic 30 instead, but after some time it started bruning too,
because the heat from the tubes killed the PCB material...
Since that I really dislike Peavey's PCB design, but maybe I just had bad luck.
Just my two cents...

Well, if I might chime in here, I'm really hooked on Mesa Boogie amps. Have been for quite some time now. I passed on a Mesa Bass amp and have regreted it ever since. So, now I'm the unpaid spokes woman for Mesa Boogie.
Just my 2 cents though.

Windsors are kind of controversial. Some people like them, others hate them. It's supposed to be vintage voiced, sort of like a Plexi. And it is a 100 watt head. Some players on HCEG (Harmony Central Elctric Guitar Forum) think it doesn't sound like any Plexi they've ever heard, and as a result, "can't get a good sound out of them." But those who buy them with the mind set of them just being a medium gain amp, and don't expect it to sound like a brit-voiced amp, think it's OK. There have been some complaints about their reliability.

Couldn't be the China Factor could it? Harmony Central reviewers below always take with a grain of salt.

That's too bad. Peavey used to be renowned for their reliability(I'm talking 15-20 years ago). They were bulletproof. Used to see them on virtually every stage in these parts for years...still do. In fact, both of the regular bands I'm working with(in other words the ones that gig regularly) I'm the only one onstage not using a Peavey! Both of the bass players use Peaveys, and the other guitarist in one band is using a Delta Blues with a Strat(not knocked out by his tone personally), while the piano player in the other band uses a KB-100 he bought used(and regularly has to beat on the top of it to get it to cooperate with him).
I quit using Peaveys years ago. Bulletproof? Yes. Tonally pleasing to my ears? No. I'll take my Victorias thank you. And I'm also in the same boat with Michelle on the Mesa Boogies(Does this boat have a tiki bar? Drinks are on me!)

You are so right on they were Bulletproof and reliable. All their guitar, bass, amps and PA gear was bulletproof stuff. They also used to proudly make them in the USA.

Mike, I was going to suggest (and this is my gut after lots of craigslist / ebay shopping) that you think more around $400-$500. Let's just say $450. Good luck on the haggle.
