Default Mesa Boogie Transatlantic????????

Hey everyone. Gots a question for ya. I just bought a drri a few months ago. The cleans are great i LOVE the reverb and vibrato. I currently live in a one bedroom apartment. Once i get past 2 maybe 3 on the volume its just to loud and the wife and baby dont care for how loud it is. So i want a lower wattage amp. I was thinkin bout selling the drri and picking up a mesa boogie transatlantic ta15. I had a triple rec with a marshall 4x12 for years and loved it but again way to loud. I dont gig. Just play at home. I havent had a chance to play the mesa but it sounds sweet. Anybody have any experience with it?

sell your DRRI???

Steady on, you may live to regret that! Seriously.

Lots of options available: Cheapest, by a good overdrive pedal.

Or a Weber attenuator unit http://www.tedweber.com/atten.htm

I have a TA-15, and its a great little amp, on the pricey side with no effects return and send, but comes with foot switch.
the amp has 5-15-25 watts and alot of tone options, the only thing i find for me, is i was spending alot of time flipping switches there is so many tone options to choose from.. you may be surprised how loud 5 watts is in an apartment..

i also have a hughes kettner tube meister 18.. and if i was in an apartment i would seriously consider this over the mesa.. you can dial in great tone easier.. also it has 1 watt 5 watt and 18 watt, also effects send and return and a red box recording output direct to mixer or recorder..
again you would be surprise how loud 1 watt is, it has 2 channel with a lead boost, cranked up on 1 watt your neighbors would come knocking.. i would check them both out...i have a 1x12 cabt for each head.. i like the vintage 30 speaker

Yeah. I have a 5 watter that @ stage volume and driven settings can keep up w/ drums, and is hard to keep tame in my apartment... In this case you might want to invest in an attenuator for your DRRI...

Thanks for the responses. Dont plan on getting one right now as i would have to save for a cab. Are avatar cabs good? Does the ta15 really sound like a vox fender marshall and boogie. For me it wouldnt have to nail each sound 100%. As long as its close and sounds good. Cant afford all those amps so it would be nice if it did them all well. I like the versatility of it. Like i said i had a triple rec and loved the tone. Is it quality you would expect from mesa?

I was going to say I'd take the H and K Tube Meister or the Egnater Tweaker over the Transatlantic. Tweaker 15w doesn't have a variable watt, but it doesn't need it. It can get great dirt, clean and in between at truly low (can't hear outside the room with door closed) levels. Also has a WEALTH of tonal possibilities. Has a Fender, Vox and Marshall seperate tone stacks. Bit cheaper than the Mesa as well, slightly less than the H and K.

Kinda wanna buy american. I played the tweaker and it was cool. I guess its a possibilty. I just liked tye diversity of the mesa. Dont really care about an fx loop as i dont use them. But back to my previous question. Does it sound like all tue amps it claims to sound like. I really wanna play one. Newbie question what is GAS?

i have never really tried too clone some of the famous amp tones, but there is enough settings on it with some tweaking i am sure with mesa reputation you could get it close.. speaker cabt would make a difference also..

i wonder if you could rent to buy, would give you a better feeling about how loud do you need to crank up 5 watts to get the tone you like..

GAS -- MEANING .. is a musician always wanting to acquire gear, can have the best of everything but still wants more. Gas is very hard to control.. Tums doesn't help at all...

Rick is right. The Greta is a cool little amp.
Also, take a look at some of the Vox modelling amps. They have some great models that sound superb at low volume. My DA5 is my practice amp and I loves it, loves it, loves it.
There's also the Fender Super Champ XD or the newer X2.

Keep the DRRI if you possibly can. It's a must have amp.

Built2drag, have you considered the Orange Tiny Terror. I had one and it was great.

It can be switched down to 7.5 watts (from 15) and has the ability to be wonderfully overdriven without being loud. Sustain sounds very nice.

As you've mentioned, you'll need a cab and I can recommend Orange's PPC112 which incidentally I still have and use for home studio use.

Yes I did notice you wanted to buy American, can't blame you for that at all but felt my suggestion might be worthy of your consideration.

Cheers.

+1 for the Orange. I have a Dual Terror (2 channels & 30w) very similar to the Tiny Terror. Highly recommended.....I believe our very own Tara has & loves one of these too- can't say better than that!

That's for sure. If Tara endorses it, it’s gotta be good. The Jet Queen don't mess around.

If you're looking American I can give you some suggestions.

Rivera amps..

Not sure your budget but..

The Pubster is a great amp for home use. It can definitely play at low volume.

It's handbuilt in America..

look into the mini rectifier..

Those mini rectifiers kick some serious butt..

Once again handbuilt in America.

I tried a SS and IMHO, I think it's an amp built for those who want a TON of overdrive and a token clean channel just in case. Plus, the overdrive channel, which has more gain than anyone should ever want or need, doesn’t, to my ears, have a sweet sound. I tried this amp out with a Setzer 6120 with TVJ Classics. It's my personal taste, but I'd recommend looking at as many other amps as possible before grabbing a SuperSonic.
I hope I'm not offending any SS owners.

My brother bought a TA-15 last year and brought it over. Before he plugged it in he told me he could dial in some Marshall tones but comparing it to my Marshall it did't hold a candle. This year he bought a Mini Rectifier. I went with him and bought a Orange Dark Terror. Two days later he brought his amp over and still didn't blow me away. My Dark Terror rocked it.

This is what made the difference. I played these amps before I bought them and knew the sound I was after by doing lot of research and playing them before buying. My brother just got caught in the hype.

I recommened the Orange Terror series if your looking for a low watt amp. I really want the Jim Root Terror that just came out. It's basicly a Rockerverb in a Terror head

I don't think one Amp could do a great job of modeling four amps but with a TA yor basically getting a shape knob that changes you mid eq from low mid to high mid. Thats the brit to us knob. That does give you alot of options.

I only play at home too and went on a similar journey: checking out low-ish wattage amps, including the Transatlantic et. al. I ended up right back at the Deluxe Reverb, or rather a clone of it, the Allen Sweet Spot. The Mesa amps were a little "tough" sounding, and somewhat noisy (at least the Express 5:25 was) at low volumes.

The Deluxe Reverb is hard to beat, but have you looked at a Princeton or even something like the Carr Mercury (pricey, but has a built in attenuator making it switchable down to 1/2 watt)?
