Default UNAD! UNEXPECTED NEW AMP DAY! JCA to JC!

I got a a tip this morning that there was a JC120 in good shape 2 hours away from me for $250 on consignment at a music shop.

I called as soon as they opened and I took my JCA20H and JCA24S+ up for trade.

Dude.... I GOT A JC120 FOR A JCA RIG! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! Now, the Jet City Amps are great amps but their used value, although they hold decent compared to their new prices, just aren't where I thought I could trade UP to a JC120. But it happened.

I woke up with no thoughts of, by the end of the day, I'd own a long sought after amp. The UNIVERSE wanted me to have this!

WHich JCA did it cost you? Ah, both the Cab and head.

Makes sense from their standpoint. JC120 is going to move to a smaller market for them than the Jet City. And they can sell the JCA half stack for atleast $250, possibly a little more.

Curious how they handled the transaction. The JC120 was on consignment. Either owner okayed the deal, or shop paid him/her from store funds, making it back on sale of your rig.

Congratulations! I really like the JC-120. I bought a new one around 1985 and had it until 1992. I got another amp and didn't have room for it in my small apartment and gave it to the church I went to. About 8-10 years later I was talking to the guy at the church I gave it to and he tells me I can come get my amp. They never use it anymore and it's taking up space in a closet and they don't want to mess with selling it. So I got my amp back and still have it, and it sounds great.

The shop owner bought the JCA from me and I used that money to purchase the JC.

I got the JCA rig (JCA20H and JCA24S+) for about $425 in total. I've had it for sale at $350 for a month and it didn't move. Got people saying they were interested but never showed up with the cash.

The point behind selling the JCA rig was to fund a JC120 with an amp I didn't use. I figured I'd have to come out of pocket a bit as most JC120's run about $500.

This was totally an exchange that worked out for all. I got an amp that I wanted while getting rid of an amp I didn't. The shop keeper got rid of an amp he, understandably, would have a hard time moving and replaced it with an amp that he could move AND got whatever commission he gets on consignment. The kid didn't seem to care what the amp went for so long ad it went...and so it did.

When I heard about this, I jumped on it!

Mine is a different iteration of the JC than yours but, having JUST heard an early 80's JC, there isnt a boatload of difference. Killer, killer amps and yours is a great story of loss and regain! Hope I have mine for 30 years and you for 30 more!

...and the distortion is NOT garbage. Heavy metal gain? No. Bluesy or oldies grit...oh yeah. Not tube. Doesn't act like tube. Don't play it like tube...like the rest of the amp.

If you have a delay pedal or rack unit with separate wet and dry outputs try running the 100% dry output into the first channel on the amp. Then run the 100% wet output to the channel with the reverb and chorus. Now you can get some great sounds running the reverb up high and adding a little vibrato. Even a little of that distortion will add an old tape unit-style grit to the delay and you have bass, mids and treble control over the delay signal.

Thanks man! I will have to try that if and when I ever get a delay unit.

I actually use the distortion on Channel 2 for ALMOST exactly that reason: to add the old recording style grit to the tone.

Great deal. When I rehearser a lot in studios back in the 80's and early 90's, each one had some of these. They were indestructible, and simple to use. Every now and then I see them for sale, pretty beat up. I would nt mind having one in good condition, to jam with again. Always enjoyed them. Congrats!

Yeah. I've seen these abused in ways I can speak of and they still fired up.
