Default Dr. Z Route 66 - anyone ever play one of these?

Just got a taste of one. I sat down for 5 minutes of play and an hour and a half flew by. I was sweating from the intensity. I was in heaven.

No way can I afford one... but I am gonna try to save for one. When something sounds that good, $1800 for the head and $800 doesn't seem so bad. It seems reasonable and even robbery. Holy crap.

I easily blew through a solid set of oldies tunes.

I have tried one and liked it a lot, but I searched for less powerful Z and was lucky to find the Z28. I added the Monza lately, the deal woth the Z guy in Germany was too good to say no, but that's not a clean amp.
Check the Z talk forum, maybe you'll find a good deal on used 66

Yeah, the 66 is a great sounding amp. I see you're from Atlanta, try Atlanta Discount Music if you want to mess with other Z's. They have a pretty good selection usually.

In studying EF86 preamp stages (just put one in my project amp), I came across the Dr.Z route 66 schematic. This guy really knows his stuff! I may have to copy his tone-stack.

There's a Dr Z dealer about 50 miles from here and they always seem to hold a good stock of these things. I daren't go in the place.

Great amps. Wish I could justify one.

I LOVE the tone stack. It is like he could read into what I wanted even though I don't know how to articulate it.

Hands down the most exciting amp I've ever played through. It's milkshake thick topped with just the right amount of chime for a Gretsch. It is also a completely unique tone.

Thanks man. I am in Acworth. I will have to check out Atlanta Discount Music. I have't been there in YEARS. There is also Humbucker Music up near the GA/TN border. They are also a dealer.

Got a Z-Best + Brake Lite deal pending.

All said and done, should be here by next-week's end.

Next I start putting money back for the Route 66.
