12AU7 Headphone Amp
Has anyone got/seen/used one if these cool little headphone amps?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Valve-Class-T...item3a65373227
They have me quite intrigued! Reveiws of this model are mixed, but they're not too expensive.

Cool! I love that
A quick search brought up this schematic; I suspect it's something similar.
The claims in the ebay ad are a bit rich though:

There is NO OP amp or IC in this circuit, which introduce unexpected distortion to the sound.
|
... instead there is this ONE tube that gives you distortion ALL the time!
BTW, there are clearly 2 IC's (power transistors?) in that design, on either side of the tube, mounted to cooling blocks.

Q: This Amp only has only 1 Tube, how can I amplifier stereo signal?
A: There are 2 triode in this Tube (12AU7), It's just like dual core CPU in your PC. So both channels were get amplifiered by the Tube.

ROTFL. A dual-core 12au7, how about that!
Sorry, couldn't resist the need to poke fun of the ebay ad.
That doesn't detract any of the cool factor of this headphone amp!
Thanks for posting Jayce.

Haha good work michiel!
I know this partucular model is more of a cool desktop item, but im sure if you track down a better version schematic and built one with decent components it might actually be cool and not a bunch of distortion! There schematics for ones with a tube for each channel and all sorts of things. i had a picture of pair of mono hifi amp with tubes the size of your head! ill try and find it again.

Do a ebuy search on Indeed G2, they claim to be the originator of this design.
My questions...How can this be modded for guitar, and what is the point of tube power if running on 12 vdc other than the nice glow, or am I missing something?

Haha, the coconut is hilarious, but I don't think it's tube is it?
And the lightbulb thing looks like a prop (do I see H7 high beam bulbs there?).
I'd love to see what you're thinking of!
