There are a few others as well.
But it has to be a serial FX loop (i.e. all output from preamp goes thru loop before output), or hava a preamp out, output in.
Basically, it lowers the output from the preamp stage, which makes the output stage work harder. Problem I had with them, as opposed to amp to speaker attenuators, is it messes with the amps normal gain structure, which to me is going to affect the tone/sound.
Can't really get that full cranked tone at lower volumes from these. They really are just adding an extra master volume to the chain.

THATS not just the omnisonic attenuator.... A volume box is a volume box. Some advertise higher quality components, and have better graphics, but I mean I wouldn't buy a volume box considering you can build them for 7 dollars or less.
Granted I suggested the Attenuator before the volume box for a reason, but if the 7 dollar fix is good enough for the user then thats cool. I'm just saying its worth a shot. if it sounds good for 7 dollars why spend 200+ on a decent attenuator if its good enough for him.
It will be a little more expensive using a steel case, but I think its worth the dough.

I just love my HT1, for a living room/bedroom amp it's everything I could want from it. That said, I'm not sure I'd have even tried it based on that demo from youtube.
It really is much better than that. It can do a screeching OD sound but I've never really used the drive button. The range from pure clean to crunchy break up is just lovely for such a teeny box.

I just registered for this forum and thought I would make a first post on this topic.
I picked up a Lil Lanilei about 6 months ago and am just blown away by it. It's 1/4 watt in a small package that sounds really great for the full but low volume I was looking for.

My personal preference is for around a 5w amp with VVR (variable voltage regulation) to both pre and power tubes. This cuts the B+ voltage and allows them to overdrive at lower volumes. Not perfect but vastly better than any of the attenuators I've tried.
I did the VVR mod myself. More info and demo at http://damacleod.wordpress.com/tag/vvr/

Fine if you want overdriven tones at lower vols.

I've got a 1967 Black Face Vibro Champ that I'm looking to sell. It's got a clean bill of health from a local (and reputable) tech. I've been using it as a practice amp.
PM me if you're interested in details.

+1 on the Weber MiniMass units for those in the OP's position.

You could get a Little Lanilei. 1/4 watt with built in attenuator.
