Built2drag, have you considered the Orange Tiny Terror. I had one and it was great.
It can be switched down to 7.5 watts (from 15) and has the ability to be wonderfully overdriven without being loud. Sustain sounds very nice.
As you've mentioned, you'll need a cab and I can recommend Orange's PPC112 which incidentally I still have and use for home studio use.
Yes I did notice you wanted to buy American, can't blame you for that at all but felt my suggestion might be worthy of your consideration.
