Default G5434 Pro Jet Grounding problem

Hello everyone.
This is my first post on this forum and unfortunately it's about a problem with my guitar.
I bought a second hand G5434 pro jet and after about a month or so it started to act up at certain pot settings.
I get an annoying hum from the guitar when I completely turn off the Volume pot on the guitar. When it's fully open, the guitar is dead silent. I think it's a grounding problem, but not sure.
I've also noticed that if I turn the Tone pot completely off and I try to adjust the Volume pot on the guitar, it only needs 1/5th of a full turn to go completely silent. I'm not sure if this is how it used to be Volume-Tone, or...
I'm also not sure if the previous owner did any modifications on the wiring.

I hope I was specific enough to get a few tips how to fix this, since I don't want to spend any extra money taking it in for a repair.

Thank you!
