im just rambling here i know
Both a Gretsch and a Tele are what you could say are very versatile guitars. They can both cover a lot of ground. So there would be some overlap there. But each guitar also has it's own distinctive voice (like the Jag has it's own voice but the Jag doesn't cover so much ground so there's not a lot of overlap between it and your Gretsch) so one can't really replace the other.
I could say that unless you really need that 'country' Telecaster sound, then you don't really need a Tele but that wouldn't be much fun, would it? You should really find this out for yourself.
I have to say that after playing 30+ years, I just got my first Telecaster the other day. My Gretschs and my Tele can do an awful lot of things in a lot of different kinds of music but they don't sound or play the same at all. I hope this makes some sense.
