Heh. Mud were my glitter band of choice before I discovered that music existed outside of 'the hit parade'. Saw Slade at Donnington around 1980/1/2 - can't remember for sure - and they were awesome. I recall turning to the guy next to me and saying "They sound like a British ZZ Top".
